Any clue what I could use as makeshift carpet?
It frankly boggles my mind that this game doesn't just have carpet blocks or something similar, any idea what blocks i could maybe paint and use like carpet though? My first try was hay but it ends up looking way to plastic-y.

Maybe painted snow?
Painted sand looks kinda good as carpet.

i guess you would have to work with surroundings as well, like, first make a rocky hard floor, then throw blocks of choose on top of said floor to create effect. experiment with paint and so on. i find that you get great effect as a general rule with much paint!
wish you the best. painted sand as mentioned above is good food thu. peace

Painting cloud blocks may make some decent carpets. It would at least have a certain fluffiness to it.

Painted Snow and Sand are good options however they have some drawbacks.

Sand can sometimes cause desert enemies to spawn nearby even from small amounts idk if its glitch or not. (Like that mummy that poped out from a tiny sandbox behind our forest house)

Snow has a annoying habbit of causing snowflakes to fall from the sky even if you put just a little snow.

If you don't like these you can use deep painted stucco since it kinda has texture bit similar to a carpet.

If you look for a fuzzy block silt might work. The only drawback is it is falling.
ironically you have animal rugs you can buy from the traveling merchant to decorate your house with but no rugs.

Maybe devs weren't born in the 50's-70's that's why they don't know what a rug is?

Nonsense. Then we would have shag carpet blocks.

Hmm I think you could use a leaf wand, hammer the leaves flat and paint them. The result could look like a carpet.

Damn, the part with the snowflakes made me laugh. It,s funny to read what kind of troubles could be caused by creative use of various building materials XD

A shugs! I haven't thought of that! Don't hammer it then, it's a very thick carpet ;p
