Do not use the move to the cloud option.
Did this at the start of a new character thinking that it would be safer to do so in case something went wrong with my pc, turns out that if you click on that button again by accident your entire map from your character is gone, just giving this as a warning to anyone else still willing to play this ♥♥♥♥ game, I'm done with this game for good now.

The truth is.
It's Steam Cloud that is ♥♥♥♥ not the game.

It doesn't change the fact that the developers knew that this ♥♥♥♥ could happen since 2015. so yes its still a ♥♥♥♥ game if they have an option that can remove your entire progress in seconds without you knowing.

Misinformed at its best.
The cloud belongs to Valve. Not to the devs. Devs cannot do anything about how it functions. Devs cannot take the game off the cloud, as steam works independently from the devs.
You can disable it if you dislike it.
It is also not a fact that the cloud deletes your character. If you move your character or world to the cloud, it just copies the files to the cloud while still leaving them at your PC.
It does not delete your character per-se. It only happens if you have some sort of an issue with the cloud. I also don't know why it happens to people, as it never happened to me.
I even tried to somehow force a broken character or world, and couldn't do it.

Don't the devs said on the terraria forums that they did not program it to send the map data? And they are looking to a fix on the terraria forums?...

Do you seriously think that the devs, didn't add the option for you to move your characters in and out of the Cloud with 1 button? and that results in you losing your entire map progress of said character?
Why do I even bother responding to this ♥♥♥♥. I'm done with the game.

The devs added the button to the existing cloud from Valve.
And moving your character into the cloud does not result into losing your progress. If this happens, it is a bug.
I am seriously not getting how stuff like this manages to happen.
I just tried to move characters in and out of the cloud for 2 minutes and none of them broke. In like 50 attempts it moves perfectly in and out.

Created the character, moved it to the cloud and started playing on it, after 25 hours or so I removed the character from the cloud by accident and by doing so my entire map progress is gone, not the world itself but the map that shows what your character has explored. After googling this ♥♥♥♥ turns out that people have been having this problem since 2015 and the devs have yet to fix this

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
