In prehardmode the corruption is barely an issue.

List of corruptable blocks
pre hardmode:
Dirt

Hardmode:
Dirt (also grows vines and thorns now)
Stone
Ice
Sand
Sandstone
Hard Sand
Mud can be converted to Dirt

And backgrounds of the same type. Nothing else is affected.

Note that Corruption converts Mud to Dirt (hi @Jungle) but Hallow won't. It might convert Stones, but that's nothing which couldn't easily be reverted once you've got your hands on a Clentaminator.
