Drills or Picks?

I know that in 1.4 drills are faster but have shorter range and picks have longer range but are slower but you can change the speed of picks with potion and the affix. So knowing all this are drills still faster that picks?

There's a line in the 1.4 changelog that says something along the lines of "Drills are now better without optimized gear, but pickaxes are still better with optimized gear."

Translating this to ingame experience it means that Drills still suck compared to Picks.
Want to dig super fast use the Shroomite Claw w Ancient Chisel.

Want a well rounded digging tool use Pick.

Want to gather a lot of blocks in short amount of time use explosives / drill containment unit
