Master mode is terrible. [SPOILERS]
Disclaimer: if you're easily triggered by people criticizing your favorite game then I suggest you leave now, you have been warned. And before some super genius with an anime pfp shows up, no, this isn't a troll post, keep the "good bait" to yourselves.

So as we all know, master mode was introduced in journey's end, it provides a greater challenge for the more experienced players. However this is where problems show up, it's not rewarding at all for how difficult it is.

Look at expert mode, everyone who plays expert mode loves it because it introduces new and extremely valuable loot from bosses, but what about master mode? Pets and relics from bosses, that's it, no new weapon, no nothing. So, now you might say "but it increases the droprate of certain items", it does, but it's really not that good, or good enough.

I absolutely destroyed master mode because I'm quite experienced with how you should prepare before doing certain things, however it still required a lot of effort, what do I get for it? A relic and a pet lmfao.

They sure nailed the golf but master mode is the absolute opposite, master mode is obnoxious, annoying, and that's it, it's not FUN.

Terraria is a great game because it's rewarding, and they added a mode that is the complete opposite of that.

Before you start getting triggered and attempt to prove me wrong, no, neither the relics or the pets provide any boosts. Now, don't get me wrong, pets aren't bad by themselves, and the relics aren't bad by themselves either (you can still sell them) but the fact it's locked behind master mode makes them bad, the effort isn't worth it at all.

I don't think it's particularly hard personally, bosses just get more hp, once you know their patterns from playing expert the challenge is gone. It's just obnoxious.

Edit: my point is that for less experienced player, master mode isn't gonna be rewarding at all, I don't care what I got personally, but for newer players it's just disatisfying.

I agree, the only good thing you can get is the flyable ship Mount from the pirate Invasion. But i guess mastermode is just for people looking for a challenge and not for casuals

Well, I'm all for a challenging gamemode, however master mode is just obnoxious and annoying, like I said. The patterns are the same, so once you play expert at least 2 times or so you'll know all there is to know about master, nothing new to learn so no true challenge, bosses only get more HP, also feel free to let me know if I'm incorrect, but I'm pretty sure enemies do more damage as well, so I'll give you that, you have to be more careful when exploring, that is FINE, exploration is always rewarding. I haven't felt a single bit of satisfaction from playing master mode personally.

Edit: I agree on the "But i guess mastermode is just for people looking for a challenge and not for casuals" part though, that's a good point, this is why I played master mode but it ended up being a tedious and boring experience.

More health and more dmg doesnt make for an interesting difficulty. Expert gave us new mechanics, new loot and then made the game overall harder.

Master is appart from very few items just more beefy enemies that hit way harder.
Some parts of the game became really boring due to how hard just regular monsters hit and how tanky they were.

The overall update is fantastic, I love it. But I feel like Master Mode could have been alot more then what we got.

Agreed. Master mode was easily destroyed due to previous experience on Expert.

More HP doesn't make it harder, just makes it tedious.

That's exactly what I was thinking, the update is mostly really really good, but master mode was completely butchered.

That sort of makes me sad because when I first played master mode I thought "there's gonna be new patterns, rewards, I'll get way better at the game than ever before, it's gonna be awesome!" but there was none of that.
Master mode is literally expert mode with more damage and health enemies. That's it.

It brings nothing to the table unlike expert where enemies and bosses had different ♥♥♥♥.

I feel like they focused their energy on the golf mini game and journey mode and said ♥♥♥♥ it make master mode which is just expert with more health and damage bosses. New attacks? Nah ♥♥♥♥ that just make them damage players more.
Rewards should be a super badass weapon or gear for tanking? Nah ♥♥♥♥ that too just give em some hats and pets.

NGL the new empress of light sucks too. Unlike other bosses that try to attack you directly she literally does the opposite and runs aways rarely getting close and the attacks are such b.s. too. Imo if they really wanted to make her a bullet hell type boss should've made the player follow her while she shoots at you. A reverse wall of flesh where you have to chase her instead of her keeping her distance from you.

For master mode imo they should've give the bosses and enemies resistances and buffs against certain weapons and armors. In a sense you could've opened up a whole new role for rangers and summoners while not nerfing melee and mages. Would've also given early game items a big buff depending on the type of damage they gave. Basically expert mode same stats and stuff but you inc. Enemy DEFENSE and Damage against certain armors.

But nop. Just give them extra health and damage. They threw rangers under the boss and summoners under 10 buses (seriously a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ whip)?

Doing Empress of Light with the secret seed for the worthy actually makes her enrage attack pattern much faster, So this seed actually has AI changes while Master Mode dont. :steamfacepalm:

if you are bored with the game ... probably not the case because of master mode ... but rather becasue you played the game 2 much i mean you have like 1800 hours in a game that you can play through in like 10-20 hours
Master mode was advertised as a completely new challenge for experienced players with more rewards, it wasn't any of that, understand our disappointment, playtime is irrelevant, I have almost 2K hours and still have fun with expert, but not with master.

Bro most people who are still playing after 1k hours (basically most of this community lol) still find this game fun regardless. Expert mode changed everything about the game and was an absolute success. Then there's master mode.

pretty much.

Even the name is a spat in the face. Should've renamed it nightmare mode to be more fitting. Master mode makes it sound like you really gotta learn and know enemies when it's just expert lvl knowledge with more tanky and damaging enemies.

MASTER MODE actually fits JOURNEY MODE more since you literally control EVERYTHING in journey mode. Imo it would've been journey mode (normal classic) expert, nightmare (master mode), and master mode (aka journey mode).

Just my input on the names

I mean, Master Mode is basically there just to be an check to see if you have mastered the game mechanics.

The health and damage increases are very noticeable, and might change your old tactics against bosses. Unlike in Expert where you could soak attacks, that's not doable in Master.

Additional accessory slot alone probably keeps me permanently locked into Master Mode.

extra slot can actually help make master mode easier. Instead of defense dodge and movement items or defense and attack accessories.
