Gemtree Farm? How would one set one up and is it worth doing?

So Gemcorns and Gem Tree's seem interesting, was wondering if they be worth setting up a farm of underground and if so what the best advice for doing so would be; since they seem picky in how they grow needing no light and seemingly more space then normal trees.

They can have light and need same space as regular trees. They aren't picky and are actually really worth it once you start getting a ton of gemcorns going.

I love Gem trees. They make the Underground such a nicer place to be in. ^^

They are very picky needing as many as 6 blocks of space to either side and 20 block ceiling and grow faster in darkness. They also have to be below 0 depth and planted in stone. RNG can also give you 0 gems or gemcorns so returns are not guarenteed. I got 2 diamonds back from 4 trees even. So if you want many gems and have gems to spare incase of bad RNG then it can be worth but you probably are looking to spend a lot of time mining to give them the space they need if you want them in a convenient place.

Really? I thought they had to be in total or near total dark to grow from what the Wiki said?

They just grow slower in darkness. They don't seem to grow at all above 0 depth though, at least none of mine did and those are in total darkness. I've dumped near 20 diamonds into trees at this point (only 4 grew) and only got 2 in return so either I'm super unlucky or something..

They grow faster in the dark, but a little light doesn thurt them too much. And there are returns, theyre just uncertain sometimes. I get gems slowly from doing mine, and use the stone for projects. Its actually really nice.A way to grow my own early game weapons ^^
