Firstly, that discord message could have easily been faked. Or more than likely just a joke. It shows absolutely no context and game devs make jokes like this all the time. Red literally just says in the screenshot "100k signers and 15 bucks and i'll make the game open source"

In what universe would a game dev make a game as profitable as terraria's spinoff/sequal open source for just 15 dollars and a random petition? Does that seem even remotely likely to you? And also, why would you even want them to?


Secondly, there are a million petitions that I would love to be real that I can almost assure you are fake. Why should I sign this one over any number of those?

One message on discord that has been cut out of context doesn't say anything about anything.


I don't lose anything by signing it. Just as you wouldn't lose anything by signing a petition to make my dad the president of nintendo. So would you sign that petition?

For all we know, he could just be seeing how many people blindly believe him based off of what he says one time without any evidence. I honestly think that's also unlikely but still much more likely than this petition actually doing something. It's not like Red thought the game wasn't going to be popular so I honestly don't see what a petition asking to make the game open source would even do.


Also, you saying something IS real isn't going to make me automatically believe it is. Proof or a good reason to believe it is true, or i'm not going to sign your petition no matter how little I lose in the process.

Yikes, okay firstly if he is being this cryptic and doesn't release it than that's just gonna be a big middle finger to almost everyone. Have some faith in the guy, jeez.

And besides, he started the petition. He obviously saw it got huge traction and, again, not releasing it is going to be a huge ♥♥♥♥ move to everyone honestly.

Why do people continue to ignore the fact that It's so dang simple to just go to discord and look up the exact thing and see it right there. I'm not going to waste time doing a sc when you could just as easily look it up. And besides, you'll probably claim someone faked it again; wouldn't seeing it for yourself be proof enough?

He saw how much people wanted this, and he's going to deliver. The petition, again, as I stated, has served its purpose. The info I provided is still relatively new so not everyone is going to know that the petition is basically already over. No harm in signing it though since it just shows even more support for it.

Who cares if it's real or fake? If you want to use the Otherworld code to create something out of it sign the petition, if you don't believe it let this run its course, if you believe it but don't want to do anything about it that's your decision. Either believe it is real and do something with that information or believe that it is not and just avoid discussing it altogether. Trying to refute something as fake or argue that something is true means nothing if it hasn't happened yet. Words and actions are two different things. (Personally, since I'm not all that interested in using Otherworld code as I am not a programmer so I won't be signing it, but I am interested in seeing where it goes.)

Checked the terraria discord. Red's message isn't easy to find at all for me. I'm not trusting random quotes someone on steam uses that they can't be bothered to link.

The petition wasn't started by red. It's very clearly started by some guy named "Frank Jewell"

This attitude of "if you don't believe it then leave" is a bit silly. I don't understand how saying "I won't believe a claim without proof" is suddenly crazy. I don't care who started the petition, I don't care how little time it wastes, I don't care whether or not red said he would do it on discord.

Until it's actually done, I am going to keep posting comments like this on these types of posts. Because this is literally just an ad for something at the end of the day. And ads are annoying.
