How to grow Gem trees
I have some diamond gemcons and I planed them deep under ground. I am at cavern level. I planted them on stone yet they do not grow. what am I missing?

Underground or cavern layer, on stone, ~14 blocks of space above and 1-2 blocks on either side.
They grow faster with LESS light, so placing a torch next to them will make them take forever.

Right next to them and theyll not grow ever. Try some low light torches if you *must* see. I find purple gives the slight amount of light required to see, yet is low enough to not hamper growth as much.

later you can just rig your light sources to see your growing space for the trees with wire and a switch. now they can be in pitch black and you can check on them periodically.

Huh. Clever. Personally I just like them on all the time, since I like to create an ambience. Gem trees make for beautiful underground graveyards. ^^ I just place them far away from the ground, on the ceiling. Seems to only affect the growth block if the light reaches too close to the ground.

I have a single tree right now. It was in low light but I put it in pitch black and a 20 block ceiling
Mine not growing. Udnerground, on stone 5x1 horizontal, vertical 30 space, no objects and not torches, complete darkess. same with normal trees not growing. on surface, no walls behind no sunflowers aside and agein plenty of vertical space. what is going on?

JourneY mode.

I am in master mode or do I need to switch to Journey?

speaking of wiring things up, has anyone tried to force growth with a tree statue, if thats still a thing?
