Can the Reaver Shark still mine Meteorite?
It doesn't say so in the tooltip but says it can on the wiki...

Yes, it can mine meteorite. And meteorites now only spawn post-BoC/EoW. No guaranteed early meteors anymore, sadly.

Sadly, no. It's one of the few changes to progression that actually feels like it's not great. Meteorite doesn't serve a purpose anymore.

They do but only after you kill the brain/worm

Yes, because the Space gun is useless....
Or the Phasesabers....or their upgrades in hardmode....

Meteorites have plenty of purpose. Wall of Flesh is torn up by meteor shot with the minishark.
