I have the same issue. Any time I go underground it gives me massive fps drops. I thought it was fixed earlier but then I found some gold ore and it was all over from there.

this is really annoying and i'm about to stop playing even though i'm not yet done with 1.4
any solution available?

I tried changing "frame skip" from "subtle" to "off" that made 0 diference. Setting frame skip to "on" made everything even worse. I'm now experiencing single digit fps rates??????

Im also having this issue. Running a R9 390x, game is very unplayable for me.

I tried changing all the video settings to low or off and made no difference.

I'm now noticing absolute massive lag when opening up journey mode spawning menu.

Same here. I alreary tried to set all graphic options on minimum/disabled and no difference.
It makes no sense lol

i have a rx 560x and i run fullscreen @60 fps on 2560x1080 on ultrawide monitor, but borderless windowed has me lagg hard

best to list full specs, i doubt its a gpu problem. sounds like either memory or CPU.

Ok, just to be on the safe side I made sure I am running latest graphics drivers, uninstalled the game from my HDD and reinstalled to a SSD. Still have the same issue. Below are my specs.

  • Windows 10 Pro
  • 24 GB RAM
  • MoBo - GA-990FXA-UD5
  • CPU AMD FX(tm)-8150 3.6GHz
  • GPU AMD Radeon R9 390x
  • Display 3440 x 1440 Ultrawide

If you are already playing windowed, then disregard my post, otherwise, keep reading.

Not sure if this will help anybody, but my computer is much weaker than Naddox's (intel core i5 2nd gen processor + AMD radeon HD 6450 + 6GB RAM) and one realy bizarre thing that heavily reduced the lag for me was switching from full screen to fake "full screen" (windowed with borderless window + full screen's resolution).

I was switching to windowed for a completely unrelated reason but it made the lag much rarer and much tamer when it happened (instead of say, constant 30 FPS with frequent single-digit FPS drop I got constatnt 60 FPS with rare 15~20 FPS drop).

Again, I can't understand how nor why it worked for me and it didn't completely rid me of the lag, but if your computer is any newer than my 9(?) year old machine...
I mean... there is no visual difference between full screen and fake full screen, so WHY DID THIS WORK FOR ME? I know I should be glad that it worked, but the fact that it worked is disturbing because I have no idea WHY it worked.

RTX 2060 => low framerate for some reason
GrandTickler May 22, 2020 @ 12:45pm
try 60hz screen refreshrate, 61 framecap, fast vsync with fullscreen.

This fixed it for me. My 2k ultrawide monitor wouldn't go past 30hz. Had to take it down to 1080p for 60hz and now the game runs smooth. Time for a new graphics card...

Yeah, I've always had problems with framerates more than 60fps in terraria, it's definitely a running issue. I always worked around it by setting the monitor's refresh rate to 60. Wish they did something about it but it's not a big deal since the fix is so easy.
