Tips for fishing quests?
So first off, I'm LOVING this update so far. I wasn't expecting this much content so I'm pleasantly surprised thus far. Sadly the one area which I was hoping to get changed (fishing quest rng) is still a thing it seems. However I'm sure people are sick to death of hearing people like me complain about it so instead I'll just ask for help. Keep in mind I have no problems with fishing itself. I actually love doing it as it's a nice relaxing task to break up the action a bit. My issue is the time it takes to get what I want from the angler.

So my question, is there any way to manipulate the drops I get from the angler? I set up fishing spots in each biome so the quests are really easy to get done, but obviously waiting a day can take a while.

Thanks in advance and I hope you are all enjoying the update as much as I am.

EDIT: You guys are awesome. Lots of really useful tips to make fishing easier and doing quests faster. I really appreciate all your help.

placing a garden gnome and or the appropriate torch for the biome he's in nearby. See the luck post for more info.

You could try trading the items you need with people, best non cheating way to get things you need ^^

the bigger the body of water the better up to 300 blocks of water, you can make these yourself if you get the endless bucket from the fishing quests. Also all fishing quests have you fish for a unique quest fish thats only catchable during the quest period, you can however fish out more than 1 so in the future if he asks for the same fish you are already done. The only catch (ha ha) to this being you cant have a copy of the quest fish in your inventory, so when you catch your quest fish toss it on the ground, into a chest or into your piggy bank then catch another. your current fishing quest ends and a new one begins every in game day at, 4:30 a.m.? i think. Make a watch just so you don't lose track.

Outside of journey mode or similar cheats i don't know any way to change the time of day.

There's system now? They really did add a lot in this update. That or I'm just really far behind XD
Even with high luck it's still pretty random what you get. Best to just trade with other players. That or grind.
i stopped caring about luck since i'm used to grinding for stuff in other games.

I just manipulated it through easy old method before 1.4

-setup a fishing spot in every area (underground, forest, hallow, crimson/corrupt, etc)
-get a piggy bank/safe
-deposit all the quest fish everytime so the quest resets until i got the piggy bank/safe full
-farm for the same type of quest fish from dusk till almost dawn next day
-turn in 1 fish and store the rest in chests near the angler
-repeat for all biome quests until i can pretty much almost max capacity store fish in a single chest

then every other quest is just getting a fish from the chest to turn in. ♥♥♥♥ luck the worst thing to happen to this game along with the happiness bar

If you just want to skip to the next day, you can right click a bed to get in and make time progress 10x faster. That allows you to get your next quest relatively quickly.

That's a thing? Does that work in multiplayer?

It is as of 1.4, and I believe so.

Edit, just checked, and it's 5x faster, not 10.

Placing a gnome? Can they be caught in a net or something? I just thought they were enemies. I knew about gnome luck though

Doesn't that require all players to be in beds?
