Gold pick can't mine demonite?

So I'm in the Corruption and I just finished my gold pickaxe today, but it won't mine anything other than ebonsand. Don't tell me all that stuff around the caves in the Corruption is actually obsidian! What gives?

Every time people say a better pre-hardmode pickaxe sooner rather than later breaks the game, I Just imagine some guy in cactus armor trying to mine hellstone.

While a lazy bum in better real armor cries "But HE's the one doing it too easy!"

lol, and wasting time with crappy gear is pointless. Plus the real challenge is hardmode anyway. Don't listen to this guy.

This is me, every time. Cactus armor is easy to get and looks cool. I used to do it with no armor until I got molten, but decided to start looking cool.

plus purification powder requires a boss beaten first, bombs don't

It's not like you have to get hellstone pre EOC or EOW. Sometimes it's nice to have a fast pickaxe.

Purity Powder turns crimson/corruption into normal blocks. All you need to do is beat a boss that isn't King Slime to buy them. I don't think Pre-hardmode is all that bad though. I perfer Per-hardmode.

Reaver Shark was nerfed and cannot mine Hellstone anymore..
