Gold pick can't mine demonite?

So I'm in the Corruption and I just finished my gold pickaxe today, but it won't mine anything other than ebonsand. Don't tell me all that stuff around the caves in the Corruption is actually obsidian! What gives?

I havent played terraria in a long time but i remember that you need atleast a Nightmare pickaxe (or the crimson variant) to mine ebonstone

Oh god, that's not all demonite, it's ebonstone? How the hell am I supposed to find and smash orbs without the proper pick to dig through stuff?

Bombs can destroy Ebonstone.

also ebonsand is the corrupted variant of crimsand and regular sand the all just need a copper pic or higher

Bombs can destroy Ebonstone. Ebonsand is just sand. Demonite is an ore that ore that rarely spawns. Don't bother mining it. You get enough from the Eater of Worlds. Obsidian is formed when Lava and Water meet and isn't associated with the Corruption.

fish for a Reaver Shark. Shouldn't take long. I usually wait till traveling sales guy has the Sitting Ducks fishing pole for sale and go fishing with that. Usually fish up the Reaver Shark pick axe in about 15 min.

Bombs, purification powder is the easiest way to get past it.
Once you get enough material for the daemonite pick you'll never need to do it again.

I reccomend not doing this, it breaks progression and can make the game too easy early on

what do you mean you will have to get rid of it in hardmode plus it saves resoures like shadow scales and demonite ore

You get a TON of items from one EoW or BoC. And they're talking about how you can get early hell items and break the pre-hm progression as soon as you make a world since Reaver is right there. To each their own, though.

You say "too easy". I say "less grindy".

IMHO, pre-hardmode is just tedious, so I do whatever I can to accelerate the process. Acquire meteor armor and space gun, kill skeletron, get shield. The rest of it is less annoying when enemies aren't playing ping-pong with you as the ball.
