large flat open area seems to be exactly what it says on the tin. fairly level terrain, and no background walls. I ended up deforesting a tree farm to make room, but i'm not sure its strictly necessary to remove trees. It seems to spawn portals on either side of the pedestal through which the enemies come, so some kind of trap arena design might be feasilble as long as the terrain restriction allows for it.
As far as I know this guy can spawn anywhere, people are reporting underground where i found him, others on the surface, even on the roof of someone's house. This makes finding him extremely easy as long as the pre requisite is done. So far wiki reports the pre requisite is that the eater of worlds or brain of cthulu have been killed on the world. There may be something else people are trying to figure it out. What I can tell you is if you go to a hardmode world and just explore around, in my case going down a hell elevator, I saw something wierd and new, was like 1 block high and 3 long, it was the bound tavern keeper. Free him and you are good.
It's not. You only need enough clear space to play the stand down. I actually settled on plopping mine down in a forest. Right on the edge of desert, which just so happened to choose that moment to have a wind storm. And then there was a bloodmoon. Fortunately that seems to be overriden for the event.
I should add that it seems to check to make sure that you have a genuine field rather than a single, long row such as is commonly used in arena construction. Having played a few rounds of the event, I know my arenas are more than wide enough and they're naturally quite flat. And the ground is solid blocks rather than platforms so I know that's not the issue.
-Edit-
Never mind, he answered the question for it, it was a no, I do not have to create a new world :P
plz help
Thank you!
