what does it mean if my npc marty is throwing a party

It means that an invasion or event will happen as everytime my NPCs throw a party, something bad happens and they die. Or the reverse happens, invasion or event, people die, celebration.

Not even close. It is just a peaceful random event, and was originally instituted to celebrate Terraria's fifth birthday.
