Terraria WAY too dark

I know it sounds all weird, that at night time it's dark, but the issue isn't exactly that it's naturally dark, but that Terraria recently got a LOT darker than it ever was for me. I can barely see, even with a bunch of torches outside at night or in a cave. I'd love to clarify that I understand I can just use a light source to light up the night or a cave, but when the torch, light source, or shine potion only lights up 3 blocks in front of me I think there's an issue. Anyone have any advice?

color shows you more of the area and slowly fades away. white is bright, but only for lit up areas (no subtle fading) or turn your pc brightness up. or download a texture pack
