Any tips on how to find Tavernkeep?

I have a large world and this dude can spawn in any layer that makes it quite a task.
BTW is this event time limited?

I found him on the surface in the forest. We actually search him for 1-2 hours, then we decide to look on the wiki. The picture on the wiki was him sleeping in the forest, we went there and there we go! (he doesnt appear on the map, hunter potion do show him green on the screen)

In order for the Tavernkeep to spawn you have to have Brain of Cthulhu (crimson) or Eater of Worlds (corruption) defeated. After that the NPC will spawn randomly, he can spawn anywhere, literally. There's no real farm to this, but most people found him either in ocean or near their base when they were AFKing.

He doesn't spawn like the Tinkerer and stay there, he spawns like a normal mob would and will disappear if you log out or go too far away and then spawn again. The hotfix was done and now he shows up as Uncouncious Man on your Lifeform Analyzer or your Cellphone. If you want it to go faster just keep cheking caves, oceans and any open spot.

My tavernkeeper was right next to my house on flat land whenever he spawned.

Thank you. Didn't realize he can despawn.
I have killed all terraria bosses, so I guess I'm just blind or unlucky.

Hmmm, is he picky or will spawn in hollow and corruption too?

He's likely to spawn in non corrupted area, not a fact, but most people found him in non corrupted places.

Even if you did beat all bosses, you must beat EoW or BoC, He spawns more often in the ocean and the dungeon as I heard from other players and seen from some screenshots, Check there first.

Yeah searching for him is kinda pointless cus he seems to spawn when he wants after the lowest needed condition is done.

For me he spawned during a Slime Rain/Bloodmoon in mid of my tree farm where he was knocked to my feet from a zombie.

So basicly he seems to spawn at some point near to the player when he wants.

he was just laying outside my house
