(Calamity) How do you not take damage from the Sulphurous Sea?

Trying to get down to the abyss, but I don't know how to get to it without getting melted by the water on the way down to the entrance. I saw someone in another thread say you needed poison immunity, so I came back with a Beazor equipped but it didn't work, I still took damage. What do I need to safely navigate the biome?

you need an item that gives you sulfuric poisoning immunity. it's a specific type of immunity

After you enter Hardmode, you have the choice to battle a monster known as the Aquatic Scourge. Defeating him will give you the "Aquatic Scourge (Lore)" item. You don't need it equipped, simply having the item in your inventory will allow you to not be harmed by the sea.

Edit: The lore item has a penalty - it reduces your stats if you do not have the well fed buff, but if you have the buff you gain more stats. If you do not want this, later on in the game after a tough boss, you can unlock a special armor which grants immunity to nearly all debuffs.
