Make sure your game is not on autosave. Find a bulb, save and exit near it. When you log back in break it, kill Plantera, then check the loot. If you got something you want, profit. If not, then tab out of your game and close Terraria. When you reopen, the bulb will be there, and you can try again.

Saved me soooo much time while farming for every different weapon/item.
If I'm sure, you can do the same thing for treasure bags if the world is expert, thought some players consider it cheating, as you force the loot you want.

As for answering the topic, maybe spectre hamaxe is enough, it have just a little bit less hammer power, but I don't think that is really worrying for destroying walls if you compare the best hammers, and it have the bonus of +3 range, so maybe you save more time if you already started using this hammer isntead of trying to get The Axe... in case if it's possible for you to be already working on mining the world right now. If not... nop, aside from getting the item in the ways mentioned above or getting a better one, only killing Plantera with better items... or making a jungle farm. There's nothing that you really can do with 2% chance of dropping...

Short explanation:
I need tips on farming Plantera. I'm trying to get The Axe and I've already defeated 14 of them.

Long explanation:
I'm currently working on a project of mine in Terraria, destroying the whole world! I'm using tier IV rockets with a Deadly Snowman Cannon. A problem is the walls. Large floating blobs of walls are randomly in my world, I can't blow them up with my Snowman Cannon as they are not solid blocks. I solution was to use a hammer combined with my Fishron Mount to break them quickly. So I need a fast axe, either The Axe, or a luminite hamaxe. I thought making a luminite hamaxe would be too annoying as I've only break the Moonlord like 3-4 times and don't wanna do it again for some time. So I'm trying to farm Plantera. With a 2% drop chance (may be double in my expert world but the wiki doesn't say) and 14 already defeated, I am getting annoyed, any tips or guides?
