Trap and Arena questions
I'm designing an arena, and have questions that I can't seem to find answers for on Google, or the answers are many years old and I'm not sure if they still apply.

1. Other than debuffs, any reason to use anything but Spear Traps since they are the fastest with the highest damage and can crit (and can be stacked).

2. If a row of Spear Traps fires at the same time, only one will damage the enemy even if it's hit by all of them. Is this simply a Spear Trap only thing, or do all other traps work the same way (ie 2 flame traps hitting an enemy - will only 1 do damage)?

3. Is there any mob immunity delay like the player can get? So if I hit a mob with a spiky ball, spear trap, flame trap, and darts at the same instant, would they all do damage? Is there a delay until they can take more damage?

1. While Spear traps are fast and have high damage, the invincibility frame of the enemies lower the DPS.

2. Yes, the inv frame rule applies to all traps (except for Sentries from the Old One's Army if I recall correctly), meaning an enemy will only get damage from one fire trap although it is colliding with multiple.

3. As I mentioned on the other 2 points, yes, they have an inv frame if hit by traps.

In conclusion, traps are rather good for crowd control (like Frost/Pumpkin Moon) and are rather bad for one single enemy.

So, assuming your traps will hit an enemy in a small area, the best damage would come from a staggered barrage like :

Flame trap (slight delay)->Super Dart Trap (slight delay)->Spear Trap (slight delay)-> repeat

or

Flame/SDart/Spear (slight delay)-> repeat

?

It doesn't matter which way you will put up the traps, as the inv frames will affect the DPS in the same way.
The only difference is how the traps behave. Spiky ball traps bounce around for some time, damaging enemies they collide with, with high damage. Fire traps set enemies on fire and Dart traps poison the enemy. As for Spear traps I can only think of high damage.

Aha! Found the info I wanted, and thought I'd post it in case someone else found their way here.

From a post
All traps do piecing damage, so can only do 6 hits/s on each mob. Less damaging traps may reduce damage by blocking more damaging traps.

So, an optimal setup - every second you want to hit a mob with :

1 hit from Flame Turret for burning (if not on lava)
1 hit from Super Dart for poison
4 hits from Spears

Hits will be staggered to 1/6th second.

If Flame/Dart dmg + debuff tick < Spear damage, then just make it 6 hits from Spears per second.

Time to build a new arena... :steamhappy:
