All i know is that items on the ground disappear when you close the game.

It depends on which character difficulty setting you are using. Mediumcore is the setting in which - when you die - you lose all of your items and you respawn as an empty character. As long as you stay within that world without exiting it, your items and gear should all be there (unless they fell in lava). Upon exiting the world, however, your items will be lost permanently. Your game cleans your world files after you exit them by removing anything not placed in order to save on world memory.

The Hardcore setting works in pretty much the same way except that you are forced to exit without respawning and once that happens your character file gets sent to the recycle bin. When that happens, you always lose everything because you cannot go back in and retrieve it. The interesting thing about that, which some people may not yet know about, is that the character file that is sent to the recycle bin is in the same state it was when you started that play session. Unlike the other two settings, Hardcore characters are not saved when you die or when you exit the game. You can restore the character file from your recycle bin and get everything back again.

There's a limit for dropped items in the world, the older dropped items will disappear when new ones drop so I suggest getting your loot back asap.

If you die in Softcore or Mediumcore, your drops will still be there until you either close the game, or enough stuff drops in the world to engage the drop limit, which will start deleting the oldest items as more are dropped.

If you exit the game, everything is deleted, so don't do that till you have your gear again.

Bahahaha, I dropped all my gear when I died, went back looking for it, couldn't find more than half of it. All my "good" gear (I'm still pre-hardcore, but had the gear to take on the wall, I felt), all gone. A few things were there, but not any of my good stuff. I was confused, so I figured I'd come check the forums to see if I was missing something. So I exited the game to come check... So if they were around somewhere, they're not now! Ugh. I guess I'm taking another break for a while. Oof.

This thread is almost FOUR years old. Nice Necro bud. Don't be a necromancer. No one likes necromancers.

Make your own thread next time, It won't hurt. I guarantee it.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
