Are players the good guys in this game?
We murder the wall of flesh. A literal guardian for all of that evil which is sealed away. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm curious whether players are heroes or inadvertent villains.

Even though we defeat the monsters, weren't they sealed for a reason?

The player is a murderhobo as far as I'm aware.

Far as I can tell, the only "good" thing you do is kill skeletron. The rest of the time is spent stabbing unicorns and drowning things in lava. All so you can get a shiny sword, murder some peaceful worshippers, their leader, and then their god. If you call that heroic, you may need to reevaluate some things.

If you look at it like that didn’t everything try to kill you first with a few exceptions?

If you're attacked by a frightened bear, does it make you "good" to kill it?

None of the mobs in terraria are exactly “frightened” of you right? Example: the imp has literal teleportation powers but chooses to attack you. This does make it “good” to kill it right?

Your character can go anywhere they like, and after building a few houses, could stay at spawn all game and kill nothing. The monsters all live in various portions of the map, and attack you when you enter.
They're defending their homes. Of course it doesn't make it "right" to kill them.

I personally don’t care about the livelihood of virtual characters. But to be fair, everything tried to kill you first, so if some innocent creatures get harmed, that is what happens in war, baby:steammocking:

We are trying to put our eyes on the prize so we are trying to stab moon lord's eyes and make terraria great again by stabbing a giant demon in the eyes.

What about the corruption and the crimson? Those are specified as “world evil” and in the lore they represent evils that will try to get rid of everything.

It is interesting that you mention the Corruption here. First of all, we all know (or should know) that the Corruption has been in Terraria since its release back in 2011 while the Crimson came a lot later in 1.2 (I think).

Now, there is a trivia reference to the Corruption being inspired from a short story by H.P. Lovecraft called "The Color From Space" about an invasive alien biome that arrives via a meteorite impact and starts to spread on Earth. If this is the case, then the Corruption in Terraria is probably as "evil" as the martians were in H.G. Wells' novel War Of The Worlds. Basically, alien lifeforms try to colonise Earth and we need to stop them because if we don't then we supposedly perish. Is that "evil," though? It depends. Are invasive species on Earth "evil?" The answer is relative to whoever and/or whatever is affected by them.

Skeletron has been brought up before. I would say he is as much an original deity of the world who has been given a human sacrifice as he is a demon who has maliciously posessed the body of the old man. Maybe it is a good thing the old man was sacrificed? We don't know.

For the other bosses, I'm not sure, though Plantera and Duke Fishron both seem to be minding their own business before your character summons them. The same with the Golem, who might even be the protector of the temple.

As for the Moon Lord... it could be a very similar story to that of the Corruption. He/she is an invader and your job there is just to stay alive.

EDIT: Changed two words, took out a word, fixed four typos, and fixed capitalization.

Lore wise. I find it a bit weird that Hallow tries to kill you and other survivors (town NPCs)

Despite being depicted as forces of light and the biome itself sheltering things from corruption.

Its odd that everything wants to kill you off in it. Its like neither you or your towns folk are worth protecting or deemed "unpure" by the biome.

There's a couple ways you can look at this, but here's my approach.

Good and evil are just terms - they change depending on whose perspective its from. Let's say that your a storm trooper from star wars. They believe that what the sith are doing is good, and therefore, people like Vader and Palpatine are the heroes, while the Jedi are the vilians.

With this in mind, you look back at Terraria - Yes, you kill the Moon Lord, as by the name, they are a 'lord,' presumably to the monsters in the game. To them, your evil because you just killed their leader. However, the NCP's of the game who couldn't hope to defeat any monster themselves would see you as a hero for defeating it. Opinions are different between different people, so while someone may hate you so much they attack on sight, someone else will agree with you and aid you till the end.

Back to the NCP's, you provide housing for them, and therefore protect them from the monsters. They sell you their items, supporting you in your actions. The dryad in particular only spawns when you've killed the Eye of Cthulhu. It's entirely possible that this is because she sees your strength, and hopes that you can go further, so she moves in to help you out.

So what's the answer? You're a protagonist - Just the leading character of the game.

But in the Terraria lore Corruption is mentioned as the growing sins of everyone who lived in Terraria and something that wants to consume everything.
Crimson is mentioned as a hive mind that also wants to consume everything. Doesn’t this make them evil?

And what about the lore? In the lore it says that the biomes brought order and balance to life while Cthulhu tried to destroy that. Doesn’t that make him evil?
