Enchanted Sword vs Fiery Greatsword
I saw a few older posts that stated that the fiery greatsword (hellstone sword) is better than the enchanted sword (1/10 chance to drop from enchanted sword shrines) for pre-hardmode melee dps. Which makes sense since the damage of fiery greatsword is almost twice as much as the enchanted sword. So I did some testing.

I got the swords as close to the base modifiers as I could with limited funding.

Fiery Greatsword did about 70-80 dps
Enchanted Sword did about 160-220 dps

The projectile and the added speed of the enchanted sword make a huge difference.
So if you are like me and play on Expert and need to max your build before each boss fight the enchanted sword is the best way to go. Tried to find arkhalis and test it as well but it has a 1/30 drop chance which would take about 7-8 large map shrines to find.

fiery great sword is beter for close quarters, use enchanted sword for any mid-far range encounters, (or wall of flesh etc) for its projectile, also the people who said its got less DEEPS than fiery was probs only using the projectile for the damage

The dps I tested was close range. The knockback is not as good but it is not terrible but this type of weapon having to high knockback will only hurt the dps because the enemies would be hit out of range. It is enough to stop their advances on you though and thats all you really need. Only thing I can see that makes the fiery greatsword better for close range is the weapon range. Fiery greatsword has a little more reach.

The Fiery Greatsword is beyond useless. Enchanted Sword is an autoswinging, high damage, projectile firing sword that, like the Greatsword, can be obtained pre-boss without having to craft it. Granted it's still pretty bad for the WoF, but it's been far and away the most efficient melee option for me in pre-hardmode.

It has a 9/10 chance to drop from enchanted sword shines provided that its a real (blue) sword and not the fake (brown) one. 1/10 for an arkhalis. The real chance of getting an enchanted sword from any one shrine is 3/10.
I got an arkhalis on a small world just recently lol.

Im still using it as well. I might even use it in the beginning of hardmode for a while idk will have to test the dps of some of the newer weapons.

The only pre-hardmode melee weapon I would every use early hardmode is Night's Edge. It's a straight up upgrade.

If you use autohotkey, anything is autoswing.

FGS larger size and reach makes Night's Edge useless.

I did another test this time with Nights Edge and Enchanted Sword.

Nights Edge did 80-100 dps with an additional 2% added damage 10% total.
Enchanted Sword did 130-180 dps with 8% total damage increase.

The numbers are different from my first test because I had to switch gear to fight skeletron but both swords were tested with the exact same increases other than the additional 2% increase. I ran out of money to reforge with so could not get the exact mods on each weapon. Niether one had any negtive mods, speed increases, or critical strike chance increases though that would affect the damage.

Enchanted Sword still wins even though the Nights Edge had a higher damage mod.

Alright my last test was with the Enchanted Sword and the Palladium Sword.

Enchanted Sword 180 dps 140 without the projectile.
Palladium Sword 160 dps.

I was able to get legendary on both weapons.
Even though the Enchanted Sword won once again the added dps comes only from the projectile so finally decided to upgrade. The Palladium sword is a little slower but hits harder, has longer reach, and more knockback. It also has the same autoattack feature.

So I will not be using the Enchanted Sword early hardmode but could if I wanted to because the damage is still on par with the first hardmode sword.
