Enemy spawn distances in Expert?

Hey. I've started a new character and a new world, playing Expert mode seriously for the first time (Legit just so i could get the mechanical minecart lol). I've experienced something unusual in regards to farms?

When you google "Terraria enemy spawn distance", the same thread from 2014 pops up as the first result. Vertically, they spawn from 35-47 tiles away, and horizontally they spawn from 62-84 tiles away, so the thread states. No less than 35 (vert) and 62 (horz), no more than 47 (vert) and 84 (horz). This has always been perfect for my farms in non-expert worlds, i typically fill in or clear out spaces within 50v and 90h of where i plan on standing in the farm (this ends up being like 103 by 184 give or take, if i make a larger farm room or etc).

Now, I'm building my Expert world dungeon farm. I've cleared out a space of about 124 x 183 (60v 90h). However, standing on the platform where i plan on building my little farm room, there are dark casters spawning on the ground, 63 (or so) tiles away.

Have i done my math wrong? Have the spawn distances changed since 2014? Are spawn distances different in Expert mode?

from what i understand. when terraria tries to spawn an enemy. it picks a block to spawn it from. then goes straight down to the closest solid block. then spawns it there.
if the bottom of your farm is solid then mobs will still spawn there. but they'll despawn after a few seconds since they cant get on screen.

this is fixed pretty easily by putting lava on the floor of your farm. lava blocks the spawn of the mob in the first place. so mobs can ONLY spawn where you want them. instead of spawning somewhere else and then despawning.

When building this kind of farm, you should place walls on the bottom half of your "arena". That way, no monsters will be able to spawn down there and will automatically spawn on the top of it.
