Isolating Corruption/Crimson - theory, need help
Greetings everyone! Hope you're doing well!
So, in one of my worlds (which is still pre-hardmode) I'd like to avoid the spreading of the Corruption after killing the WoF.
To avoid it I was thinking about digging around the whole corrupted biomes (which are only 2), and by doing so to isolate them, and hopefully to prevent them from spreading. This would be done by digging a 5 tiles large or deep tunnel around the biome, placing dirt, grass and a load of sunflowers. Then, as soon as I'd have a Clentaminator, I'd purify the whole isolated chunk of corruption.
Do you think this would work? Has anyone tried? Should I do this before killing the WoF or after? Because after killing it the corruption would start to expand and could get out of control.
So what should I do?
Thanks to everyone and have an awesome day!! ^.^

hi, in case you see this, Terraria's worldgen and corruptionization/crimsonization isn't based on if your world can spread more of itself, it literally just throws a letter V shape of corruption/crimson. Meaning, doing this will NOT work

I see, thanks for telling! Do you have another solution or idea I could try? Still, thanks a lot

If you really want to, do it AFTER you beat the wall of flesh. Yes, you could infact purify the entire crimson afterwards, but make sure you still have a place where you could get souls of night.
Also, it doesn't spread so quick so as that it will completely engulf your world. It takes about 20 in-game days for it to make any noticable progress; I usually just ignore the world evil altogether as, once you get strong enough, it and its enemies don't even pose a threat anymore. If you really want to get rid of it, the clentaminator would be the best option so I recomend waiting until you've defeated the first mech boss. Still, how you want to go about it is upto you. Thank you for reading this wall of text (pun not intended) and have a nice day!

More than purifying it entirely I wanted to isolate it, keep it separated from everything else. Thanks for giving me these advice, they'll come in handy for sure! And by the way, even if the pun was not meant, I like it and will keep it in mind :D
Thanks again, enjoy the day!

this probs wouldnt tho. just A BIT of the stuff wont spread. there will b more underground at the point where you KILL wall of flesh, and ther will b hallow and every time u break a demon altar, the game gets more corrupt, and u NEED to break at least 1 to advance into the game.

Haven't played for so long... 1000 hours and still I feel like a fcking newbie...
Man, I feel sooo stupid... Thanks for the advice :D
Everytime you break an altar there is a 66% chance of one of the blocks in the world becoming corrupted, terrible game mechanic if you ask me.
Another thing that is worth of noting is that even when you reach the edge of the world there are still sand blocks after the end of the ocean, these blocks can become corrupted and are an annoyance, since there is no direct way of dealing whit them or knowing if one of them has become corrupted. Just don't forget to sprinkle some clentaminator on the edge of the world too, and check if there is any sort of corruption/crimsom/hallow spreading from the edge of the world.

33%, not 66%.
33% corrupt, 33% hallow, 33% nothing

XD everyone who starts without looking on wikipedia first feel like newbies. and yw. tho i just feel like i shot down yo ideas....

what WILL work is not ISOLATING ISLANDS OF CORRUPTION. its ISOLATING SAFE AREAS IN YOUR WORLD. if u DESPERATLY want part of your world to be overworld forever, u can make it overworld forever by doing the strat u wanted to do for de corruption. then u can repeat on another small island of corruption, and clentaminate it. then keep repeatin makin small islands of corruption with 5 blocks apart and clentaminating until yo whole overworld will b normal. then u can simply plug up the holes and leave a crack 5 blocks wide accross the whole world. now uv just halved the whole spread of corruption and limited it. :D

i kinda made an idea up while typing. so now it ISNT just small areas of yo world u can save, its de whole overworld. i cant do anythin about de underworld sadly. JUST REMEMBER. before u start the strat above, SMASH ALL YO NEEDED ALTARS FIRST. THEN NEVER SMASH ONE AGAIN. and u wil b home free in a couple of terrarian days

im confused here. wont the sand just become corrupt sand so its easy to spot? ebonsand and watevr crim sand is could b easy to spot with some glowsticks or other lightsource. i dont understand why it is harder to spot sand underwater

Alright, thanks for the tip, will keep it in mind, but I'm starting to think that I should simply enjoy this playthrough without worrying too much about the crimson/corrpuption. Should the problem present itself, I'll have a clentaminator ready xD
Again, many thanks!

Thanks for all of your comments, you provided a ton of information!! Once in hardmode I'll gladly try your idea out, but on a small scale. It sounds like a ton of work and I get bored/tired quite easily xD - should that happen, I can still use the clentaminator to purify enough world to sit back and relax for quite some time, then repeat the process.... OR I could ignore the problem and live my terrarian life until I'd have to clean almost the whole world xD
Your help was really welcome! Thanks for your time :D
