you need a molted pick, made from hellstone bars from hell, or a reaver shark, gotten as a super rare thing from fishing

The Molten Pickaxe and the Reaver Shark are able to mine Cobalt and Palladium, depending on which ore your world generated (it's random).
After that, the Cobalt/Pall Pickaxe mines Mythril/Orichalcum and so on.

Alternatively, you can fish for hardmode bars/ores so you can skip the whole mining process.
