This game's wiki was always amazing. I'm just surprised Google didn't pull that up for me.
Thank you!
You know, I looked it over, this doesn't seem to be what I was looking for.
For example, I know one thing you (used?) to have to do was dig out a tunnel surrounding your NPC town to prevent the two new biomes from overtaking your area.
But that doesn't appear to be on anything linked to from that page.

1. explore and maximize def
2a. break 1-2 corrupted spheres
3a. wait meteorite
4a. get bombs and break meteorite
5a. craft meteor armor and meteor gun
2b. find rubies, plat/gold, craft crown
3b. get 20+ gel and craft slime king spawner
4b. get 50-100 grenades, make platform at ~30 height and kill slimeking safely(rope also works)
5b. get hook, mount and nijia armor if you don't have meteor yet
6. explore jungle, find hearts, fastrunning shoes and other accessories and weapons (shotgun is good)
7. build platform and kill eye using flat platform and running shoes
8. learn to use shield from eye (bash! extra def!)
9. [optional] build queen arena, summon queen several times and kill it to get beenades and other usefull beeweapons
10. [optional] build skeletron arena, kill skeletron
10a. [desirable] find cobalt shield
11. get to the hell
12. craft 1-2 antilava potions
13. mine hellstone for pickaxe, armor and summoning item
14. build arena for wall of flesh (using slimeexpert thingy helps a lot!)
15. kill wof
16. [optional] have 1 plat, kill queen and set witchdoctor to jungle home to get cute wings fast and easily after getting to hardmode
I find saying "don't fix what's not broken" well suited for terraria. Don't worry too much. Game is not hard and it's never too late to try again when you fail.
Hmm, no, I'm not looking for beginner tips. I just wanted a brief overview of some things that should be done before entering Hardmode.
Like one thing I always liked to do before entering HM was make sure I have Frostspark Boots, Lava Waders, Obsidian Shield, Lucky Horseshoe, and a good hook. Makes it a lot easier to move around and fight freely in just about any kind of terrain. Also, having an alchemy garden can be helpful, and digging a trench to prevent evil from getting to your NPCs IS kind of important, or they'll all move away. (From what I remember.)
For interest, this pretty much does everything I needed, though... just in more words than I needed:

Not much changed, anyways, so it ended up being unnecessary anyways. I figured I hadn't played in like a really long time, so maybe a lot changed, but nah.
I've done 2 playthroughs eversince moonlord and never needed to dig a hole. Corruption is far from spawn and all you need for clentaminator is a mechanical boss.
-Slime king > Slime hook
-Meteor > Space set
-EoC
-Garden
-EoW/BoC
-Hellstone with lava/miner potions
-Start jungle biome strip
-Heart searching with spelunker potions
-Fight queenbee on jungle biome strip
-Skeletron
-Shield/shadowkey
-Hellwing bow
-*If goblin hasn't spawned by this point, force an invasion, find tinker, reforge accessories
-WoF
Well, subjectively, a lot of people feel the need / like to do these things. I am one of them.
I'm not really sure what you're arguing here, lol. You obviously never intended to provide the assistance I was politely asking for, so maybe go debate in the appropriate threads?
Getting the meteor armor as early as possible is good as well (get bombs or simply make the demonite pickaxe to mine the meteorite, be carefull of the meteor heads), I absolutely love the infinite laser gun ammo thanks to the armor set bonus (it's easy to beat the skeletron with this)
Meteor takes me all the way to WoF, because Space Gun is love, Space Gun is life.
I'll often skip the bosses, and just dirt-cheese my way to some orbs, bomb them to drop meteors, and then make the set.
>Everything else here<
Right before killing WoF, I'll finally move up to Molten armor, and varying weapons depending on my mood at the time. But I tend toward stuff like Waterbolt, Bee weapons, and Sun Fury. I'll also grab Night's Edge most games.
