Water candle question.
Does water candle affect spawn rate of harmless mobs like butterflies or birds?

No only increase enemies
Use sunflowers to increase happiness to attract harmless mobs

Actually, it does increase critter spawn rate.

Sunflowers also decrease overall spawn rate, including critter.

edit: as Oak already said, overall spawnrate increase also counts for critter (water candle, battle potion)

edit2: by the way, if you want to farm critter, place a water candle near 3+ friendly NPCs.
