Solar Armor - Am I Missing Something?
So I just got to the point where I could start building Solar Flare armor and... I'm just left wondering why I would. It seems a bit underwhelming compared to Beetle armor. If I want to crank out damage I'll use the Scale body piece and if I want to be unkillable I'll use the Shell.

So can anyone tell me why Solar is considered the "best" melee armor?

Thank you, I already looked at it on the wiki and compared the defensive set bonuses. The beetle bonus stacks faster and is 15% per rank compared to 10%. So for each 3 second period you'd be getting 5% more damage reduction compared to the 5 second charge on solar...

I guess what I'm trying to ask is why Solar is considered the "Best" armor set... it seems like a generalist set that gets outclassed by its predecessor if you have any focus to your build? Does that make up for the loss of being incredibly high damage or being incredibly tanky? Especially when you can factor in just swapping between those bonuses as the beetle set?

I suppose I was expecting for the "best" armor to be strictly better than its predecessor, so I'm wondering if the dash is somehow that good to make all the difference then?

Right, gonna go on that question then.

While the Beetle Armor takes faster to charge, it only increases the damage reduction by 15% for each charge.
The Solar Armor will have a 30% reduction regardless of the amount of charges your Shield contains. Though it takes longer to charge and the damage reduction is 15% lower, its higher defense pretty much fixes that up. The dash is also very useful as it pretty much replaces the Tabi (or the Master Ninja Gear). It also has better melee stats than the Beetle Armor.

Can you elaborate? I don't understand what you're trying to say with that.

I guess I misread that on the wiki and thought it had to scale up. I'll be trying it out at some point.

Thank you again for your answers, they've been helpful in clarifying things for me!

No problem. The scaling part of the Shield was my mistake too. Thought it had the same effect like the Beetle, but apparently it stays 30% regardless of amount of charges.
