What to do post-golem
So, I'm doing a solo expert run for the first time, and I've just killed Golem. Now what? I feel like I've hit a wall in terms of progression...

Struggling to kill any of the bosses from the three main events (besides UFO through cheesing), and I'm unsure if I'm ready for fishron.

Been running mainly ranged so far, with shroomite armour, sniper, pirahna gun, minishark, dart rifle (crystal darts for ez dungeon clearing). What should I be doing/what am I doing wrong?

The part that currently intruiges me is that you have a Minishark. Instead of a Megashark. Consult the guide for that one.
Once you get the Megashark, things should change significantly. You should try fishron once you have a good arena set up. Floating honey bubbles, campfires and heart lanterns. Sparse but large platforms (assuming you have wings).

After Golem has been defeated, the Lunatic Devotes spawn at the dungeon entrance. Defeating them will get the Lunatic Cultist. Killing him triggers the Lunar event, spawning the 4 Celestial Pillars. You could try doing that for now.

EDIT: Ninja'd, aight. Yes yes, build a Megashark from the Minishark and some other parts or consider getting a different strong weapon ^^

Sorry, meant megashark, haha.

Yeah, I know the process etc, but my point is I still feel like I'm a bit under-geared for everything. Is there a stronger class at this point than ranged? What's the current meta?

Oh, you're looking for the meta. Try Beetle armor. And the Influx Waver. You'll become jesus. And I hate becoming jesus because it's boring.

Which class is stronger can pretty much be based on your playstyle. If you prefer Ranger, no one's going to judge you. And I'm pretty much assuming that there are good ranged weapons from late bosses (like Plantera).
Other than that, beating the Vortex Pillar can easily get you a Vortex Beater or the Phantasm. But I doubt that you wanna go for that one yet.

Haha, well, I used to play this religiously so was very good, but took a huge break so I'm a little rusty, so jesus could be what I need at the moment :D Luckily already got the influx weaver, and I think the materials for beetle.

I'm drooling over that end game gear, haha. I've done it all before a long time ago, but never solo expert, haha.

I feel you. Haven't played Terraria for quite a bit a few months ago and I tried Expert straight away. I know your struggles.
But the magic word in this case would be: Practice.

Heard a lot of hints talking about dodging in expert mode. What's the current recommended mobility accessories?

On first thought of mine, accessories that can dash. Obvious examples would be the Shield of Cthulhu and/or the Master Ninja Gear (with the Tabi being the actual dash thing). Another reason to get it is because of its dodging chance from the Black Belt (both things dropped by Bone Lee)
Second thing, good wings. The best wings pre-lunar would be Fishron, Betsy or Steampunker wings.
Other than mobility accessories, pretty much any equipment that could enhance your ranger abilities, like the stealth mode from the Shroomite armor or the Sniper Scope.

Would you say the worm scarf is still useful at this point?

Cultist isn't as hard as you think. Just dodge a little bit and NEVER kill the fake clones. It is much harder if you do. (it gains new attacks and such)
So just go for him. Then die 50 times clearing a pillar.

Actually, it becomes more useful later in the game rather than early. It takes 17% off of damage, not 7+ armor. Imagine it like an Ironskin potion against an Endurance potion. Ironskin is nice an easy to get early game, but Endurance is where the power is at later.

Interesting - Would you guys say it's worth reforging all accessories for defence or damage? Currently have them all at Warding.

Yeah, the Worm Scarf can also be useful due to its damage reduction, didn't think about that.

If you are rather tanky, you should go for Warding. If you rely on full DPS, Menacing.
