how to reduce amount of enemy spawn ?

Attempting to setup the arena for wall of flesh, but enemies keep spawning, they spawn faster than i can kill, if i just killing then i wont be able to do anything. any ideas ?

Hmm. Have you tried a Calming Potion? You need Damselfish, which can be caught in the Sky Lakes, and Daybloom, which can be harvested in the forest areas.

Alternatively, you could attempt to make a few Peace Candles and spread them around where you're building. You need gold or platinum bars, and torches made from the pink gel dropped by Pinky. Either one should cut back on the enemy's numbers a bit.

Also include banners to kill the enemies which do spawn.

i like to build big walled areas with peace candels it greatly reduces enemy spawn

Or you may want to make an area that's completely walled up.

ok seems like i need to look for pinky, i spend all of them making molotov. effect of the peace candle does not stack ?

No stack, but use it w/ calming potion and banners so if anything does spawn, you can kill it.

Sunflowers, apparently people forget about this but Sunflowers reduce enemy spawns and increase movement speed. I needed it for my Boss Arena because of the ridiculous amounts of enemies spawning on it when I needed to focus on the boss fights.

/maxspawns default - sets maxspawns per wave to 5

Just need a single layer (1 block wide) of dirt blocks, use either grass seeds or a Staff of Regrowth (from jungle shrines) to place grass on these blocks then plant sunflowers. Both higher movement speed and lower enemy spawns is useful for WoF, though you probably already beat it by this point.
