Are you tired of that wooden box with other boxes connected to it? or a giant wood tower, and you think to yourself "If only my house looked better..." well, in this thread i`ll share 15 building tricks i`ve learned over the years and make your house look better, so lets begin..
Trick #1: Painting pumpkins, you can use paint {i recommend red paint} on pumpkins to make them look like fruit, you can also put them in custom trees {a tree created with blocks not an actual tree} and make it look like a fruit tree or in bushes { just make sure you use actuators}
Trick #2: A palette, when making a house it is important to use a variety of blocks to make it look better, example is a gray brick, {or boreal wood} floor, normal wood, a normal wood ceiling and a red brick brick roof, oh and speaking of roofs
trick #3: Roofs, for a nice looking roof, use mud stone painted red, and then put the stair version of spooky wood platforms painted red, to make a nice roof..
Trick #4: using the correct palette: as spoken above in trick 2, is it important to add variety but to make it look good, using the correct blocks, paint, etc, will make sure it looks right,
Trick #5: diffirent palettes in biomes, To make a house look like its not out of place in a biome, {like a wooden cabin in a desert biome} you chould try to use blocks, walls etc, from that biome you`re building in to make the house {sand, sandstone and maybe palm wood for desert, wood, stone for purity/forest, pearlwood, pearlstone bricks for hallow, and you get the idea} you can also use different forms and layouts of the house to make it more at home in its biome {cabin or castle for forest, a skull for the crimson, a crystal sticking out of the ground for hallow, etc}
Trick #6: Plants, to make a area more "pretty" using plants like flowers, natural and custom bushes {using leaf walls}, and so on will make the area just look more pretty
trick #7: Staircases: to make a house look better, using different types of staircases instead of platforms floating in mid air, will make it look more like a house, take a look at my Cozy Cabin i made a while ago, and you see i used platforms as a staircase but in a much more "eye candy" like way
Trick #8: Furniture, dont fill your house with just chests and crafting stations, add variety, but make sure it is done right so it doesnt look out of place like a sofa in a the bathroom or something,
Trick #9: Shape of the house: although you can make a box house look pretty by using the tricks above, it will better if you add more "shape" to the house
Trick 10: Rooms: Adding alittle variety like i did in the Cozy cabin artwork i made awhile ago, will make your house, look more like a house, like bathrooms, bedrooms, etc
Trick #11: Paintings: adding paintings around your house will make it look better, like the sunflower painting and "Dont step on the grass"
Trick #12: waterfalls, there are two types of waterfalls ingame, you have the "natural" waterfall created by placing water in a 2 block wide house and hammerering the edge to make a slope, and then the waterfall blocks/walls
trick #13: lighting: using other light sources other then torches, like candles, chandelleirs, will make the house look better imo
trick #14: Abandoned house: using cobwebs in a abandoned house or haunted home will make it look spookier and as a trick i used when i used to play minecraft a long time ago, puting signs on the windows and doors will make it look abandoned, also hammerering the floor, missing part of a staircase will help too
trick #15: Npc rooms: Wait stop! dont make that poor npc`s house a wooden box, i have a better idea, you chould make a house themed after that npc`s profession and passions, like a gunshop for the arms dealer, a organic looking house for the dryad and a wizard`s tower for the wizard..
