Spread of corruption question
I was wondering what the minimum requirement for a vertical or horizontal gap to prevent the spread of corruption is. I'm creating a world for expert hard mode that has a fishing spot in every biome. I'd like to separate them by barriers and am not interested in extensive use of the gun that spews biome juice (clentaminator or something?).

This is what I have been doing, my goal is to do the bare minimum possible to prevent the spread of hallow/corruption. Any tips? Is this basically what is needed?

I read somewhere that it can go 10 down and maybe only 3 up & across if you block it with a material like wood or glass.

Also, can walls carry the spread of corruption/hallow?

I am pretty sure that evil biomes do not spread through walls. And I am also sure that you need a minimum 6 block gap to stop the hallow/corruption from coming over. Just to be safe make it a 7 block wide. If it does somehow spread over the walls just remove the walls and clense the area you wanted to protect in the first place. Hope this helped a tad

Is it 6/7 wide if there is no resistant material and less if there is a resistant material? Otherwise there would be no point in using wood. I was just placing wood at the gaps like shown in the pic so it is effectively 7 wide at the cave entrances which I hope is all I need.

I just didn't want to make huge hellivators because there are some fishing spots right up against the wall already.

I believe you dont need to even fill the gaps with a non corruptable material. The evil source should just sit on the other side not being able to cross the gap

Corruption/Crimson/Hallow have a spread range of 3 blocks. They can spread across corruptible tiles, uncorruptible tiles or air within this radius. However, vines and thorns can grow father than that (6 blocks) and spread corruption/crimson/hallow as well.
So the best way to block them off for sure is make a gap at least 3 blocks wide, and block off the sides with uncorruptible tiles. If you're far enough underground that grass can't grow, you don't have to block off the sides.

I guess I'll turn on a depth meter and try 6 blocks for surface, and as soon as depth meter hits 0 or -1 I'll switch to 3 blocks and see if that actually works. Maybe place down a sunflower at each edge with grass.

I used 3 blocks on my last world and it wasn't enough. It crossed multiple times in multiple places. I got tired of fighting it because it spread so fast.

I cut through a combination of dirt/stone mostly, but there is some mud/sand/clay and whatever else. Dirt & stone seems the most corruptible but it depends on the biome.

Would you like any help excavating?

This has nothing to do with the topic, sorry but I'd like to ask here rather than opening a new thread. Can Zombies destroy doors after a while? I can't remember any more.

No thanks, I'm kind of a loner when I play this particular game. I just treat it as a solo game for some reason.

I believe zombies can either open or destroy doors (I forget which) on blood moon. I usually build above ground and have the entrance be vertical from the bottom with rope. This keeps everything out except for the wandering eye, which is kept out only 99% of the time with a few wood tiles.

you need 4 block gaps.

corruption and hallow can spread through some walls so you either need to break the walls or fill the gaps with wood, which biomes can't spread through.

If you wanna get a easy way out just grave a clentaminator with hollow solution and make the whole world hollow for those sick rainbows

it can spread through walls, but only a certain amount away from corrupted blocks, as shown above. Also, it can't transfer from walls to blocks, so there is no need to worry.
I made a 3 block wide tunnel with uncorruptable walls, which (5 block gap) has been enough to contain it.
Hope this helps! ^^

Just to clarify, corruptible blocks are:
Grass*
Stone
Sand
Hardened Sand
Sandstone
Ice
Mud**
Jungle Grass**
Jungle Thorns**

*(Grass but not dirt! Meaning underground dirt is uncorruptible.)
**(Crimson/Corruption only.)

All other blocks are uncorruptible. This means wood, clay, glass, any brick, etc. are safe to block off vines with.

Hallow spreads through walls and Corruption probably doesnt

As I've said before, everything spreads through walls within a 3 block radius. That's the rule. Walls have no effect on that, but they DO block vines/thorns.
