Do I NEED to break altars?

Before i started hard mode, i fished for just over 400 crates. First thing I did in hard mode was open them all and they gave me enough ore and bars to make full set of Titanium armor, drill, etc.

I want to contain the crimson and hallow as much as possible. Do i really need to crack altars if i don't need any of that ore right now? Then when i kill whatever boss starts the slowdown of the spread, i can crack them then?

Cracking them is compulsory. Cracking them increases the chances of all hardmode ore in the game, also spawn rate, plantera bulbs (After the 3 Mech Bosses) and etc

I have full Titanium armor etc. I don't need ores right now. Can i wait to crack altars after i've explored more and crafted some important items and farmed a bit before i do that if i already have the full Titanium?

What I mean't is there's stronger ore than Titanium. You could have to kill all 3 bosses first though before moving on.

My advice: Leave the altars alone, if you have Titanium/ Frost armor. Unless you don't care at all for the world biome spread that is...

I'd only recommend breaking altars if you really need more ores, since breaking many will always create more pockets of ores in your world

Altars have no impact on Plantera Bulb spawn. They do start the mechanical bosses spawning at 10% chance a night, but you can spawn them manually with their boss-summoning items, so that's not required.

If you've already fished for the ore, there's no particular need.
I will say a world with enough tunnels can handle the additional pockets spawning ('cause you'll find them before they have a chance to spread). So if you need more ore for something later, that's an option.
