NPC Wizard attacking Player??
I keep encountering a wizard that looks exactly like the NPC wizard, but teleports to em and keeps attacking me with magenta magic bolts that go through solid walls. The only information I can find on this "enemy" is that it's not mentioned as hostile, and there is no mention of enemy human wizards. I don't have an image, but if you want to know what he looks like, just look up NPC wizard and that's it. Any ideas how I can defend myself instead of using magic mirror to escape, or any way to defeat it?

"Bound" NPC's are not actually bound by anything. They are NPC's that just stay motionless or hop around.

There is no binding.

You are not "freeing" any bound NPC. You are not un-binding them.

When you talk to the "bound" NPC, you actually kill them.

You "kill" the Old Man, you "kill" the Bound Goblin, you "kill" the Tortured Soul by putting Purification Powder on them. These are all different behaviours and they are not changed.

Being unable to locomote (I.e. walk around) is just another NPC behaviour.

Nothing is stopping a bound NPC from walking around - they are not programmed to walk at all.

I don't really think you get this concept yet because it still looks like you think being bound and being freed are only different states for a single NPC entity to be in. If that were true then being "bound" would make a difference. It doesn't. It is just a behaviour and you don't change it.

I am kinda tired of repeating this but you can look it up or even ask on the Official forums. But it can be verified by others, not just myself, so that much is most likely true. I just don't want to keep arguing about it. So I won't. Take it or leave it. I don't care anymore.

In any case, I believe the OP is telling the truth when they say they saw the sprite of the Wizard NPC and I speculate that pre-released NPC's that are spawned in hardmode can change their behaviour if they spawn in pre-hardmode as long as there is a line in the programming saying "Attack in hardmode = False" or "Stationary in pre-hardmode = True". That much is belief and speculation so I won't say it is for certain.

And I do agree that a screenshot would be helpful. But until then, skepticism of the OP seeing the Wizard NPC's sprite is as much a belief as mine is. We don't know. So let's wait for the screenshot before trying to tell the OP what they saw.

nope. not them. He's not skeletal or undead, but a purple-robed wizard. https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Wizard I'll see if i can take a picture next time I encounter him before I escape.

So Tim can be crossed off the list. Just killed him. The wizard looks like the necromancer with a purple hat and pale. Still looking. no encounter yet.

Also, where are you running into this caster? Is it the dungeon? Or in the caverns?

Caverns around the granite areas mainly. Haven't been to dungeon yet. Never used mods for this game either. I was thinking it was a glitch and the NPC is believing I am an enemy. Been trying to encounter him again to get a screenshot. haven't before because he was quickly wearing down my health while dodging him and the granite golems and guardians.

Alright. This might seem like a stupid question because you said you haven't been in the dungeon yet but are you in hardmode yet? Have you defeated the Wall Of Flesh yet? And this world you encountered the wizard mob before, have you let any other players in for any multiplayer games yet?

I ask because there is a Wizard NPC that you can rescue once your world is in hardmode who does have the pink/purple hat you mentioned. He also has a pink/purple outfit and a white beard. Have a look here to see if this is him:

^^^ It is possible this NPC has shown up early and is hostile via some sort of bug or glitch. Also make sure he actually harms you when he shoots stuff at you because it is possible the NPC is friendly and only shooting at enemy mobs nearby, and maybe you are in the way.
