Building Tunnels around corrupted zones?
Just reading through the Terraria guide in which it's stated that before you enter hard mode, it would benefit you if you'd dig 6 block wide tunnels around your corrupted areas in order to prevent it from spreading across the whole map.

As far as I can see I have 2 of these zones, 1 left and 1 right sided from my base. Does this mean if I build 4 tunnels around these 2 zones I can enter hard mode without having to worry about it spreading at all?

It's random where this will form, so there's no way to fully block it before you enter hardmode. Blocking off the smaller corruption biomes will help, but not fully solve the problem!

Also, you must break Demon Altars with the hammer dropped by the Wall of Flesh for hardmode ores to spawn. But, every time you do, there's a 66% chance a block of stone will become hallowed or corrupted! So fully containing the spread can be a nightmare, unfortunately...
Expect the first would you enter hardmode on will pretty much get overrun. It's not a big deal, though. If you have a lot of builds you like on this world, consider making another and hardmoding it instead.

Eventually, you'll be able to get an item called the Clentaminator[terraria.gamepedia.com] which lets you purify areas quickly. But, if your jungle gets corrupted, it's hard to uncorrupt! So keep that in mind, and consider digging 3-wide hellevators on either side of it.

Not mandatory, stop trying to make matters complicated. You're gonna want to have corruption around atleast until you defeat Plantera. Do not bother with trying to stop the corruption, you'll get really effective ways of cleansing biomes later on

You'll finish the game long before the corruption takes over much of the map, don't bother with that.

Worst case scenario your last chance would be to build the tunnels around your own base in like a 500 blocks range so you can always go down and clean it up every now and then.

I never worry about Corruption because I finish the game before it becomes a big problem.
