also you can do auto hearth statue to be extra op
THIS - A lot of how difficult bosses are is dependant on the terrain/arena you have built. The solar eruption works great for this strategy.
Some more preparation you could do is bring a summon for extra damage (assuming you're not a strict melee only playthrough) as the stardust dragon even with only 1 or 2 (if u have the bewitching table) can do decent damage.
I like to do the martian event at this point in the game and farm for the ufo mount as it offers infinite flight and allows you to take off your wings for a more preferable combat accessory.
Small houses can be built in the sky where you are fighting to hold the dryad and the nurse as the dryad offers you a buff for fighting near her and if you're quick the nurse is amazing for healing.
You said you already had potions and buffs in your area but here's a reminder of everything you can have that helps: Campfires, Heart lanterns, A heart statue connected to a 1 second timer (can be replaced by an enemy statue and placed in lava which will drop hearts but less consistently), ensure u have 500 health before lifeforce.
Potions: A food to give you well fed, Endurance potion, Inferno potion (less necessary but still helps), Ironskin potion, Lifeforce potion, Rage or wrath potion depending on your world, regeneration potion, Summoning potion can get u to 3 summons with the table if you choose to use it, thorns potion, a flask to empower your melee weapons such as the flask of cursed flames, fire, ichor, poison or venom but NOT nanites as he's immune to confusion.
You probably don't need to do all of these things to be successful but this is a list of possible extra things you could do to defeat the moon lord, hope i was able to help :). If you have any queries feel free to reply this and i will probably reply back.
If you fail, I'd just cheat in some of the impending doom summons. (What? Do you really wanna go through the Lunatic Cultist + 4 Towers every single time?)
Also, bring lots and lots of potions. All of them, if possible.
And lower the hands + head eyes but don't kill them. Wait until they're all low, and then proceed to kill them off. Then go straight for the heart and hold nothing back.
