In vanilla, the best way to fish up junk is to fish in a tiny pond (75 tiles min) with crappy bait, the wooden fishing pole and no "bonus to fishing" items. So unless the mod changes anything, I guess I'd try that.

I've tried doing that also but to no avail
If you haven't already try fishing in the ocean. It needs 1,000 tiles but there should be enough.
In vanilla (and presumably that mod that needs 5 shoes) there's no way to get obsidian from fishing.
