The Rod of Discord is a powerful item, sure, but it's balanced by the difficulty of obtaining it. It has a 0.2% drop chance from a fairly-common Hardmode enemy in a specific biome. Not prohibitively difficult, but unless you're very lucky or spend a lot of time grinding underground hallow mobs, you're going to likely need to build a mob grinder and take steps to increase the spawn rate in order to get one.
The real problem with the Rod of Discord is when people abuse exploits to start with one. It's a very powerful item, probably one of the strongest in Terraria considering what it allows you to circumvent. Many early-game challenges are subverted when someone can point and click to teleport to a given point instantaneously, removing the need for actual dodging skills. This is why the RoD was given a debuff in 1.2.1.2, to prevent people from spamming it without killing themselves. The devs realized that unlimited rapid teleportation removed all skill from the game's combat.
For those who enjoy the game's combat, they should play without a RoD, until the point can legitimately earn one on that character. They should also consider a mod that reverts the changes made in 1.2.3 and 1.3.0.1; both of those updates reduced the amount of damage you take when you teleport with the Chaos State debuff. This makes it more dangerous, and more challenging, to use the RoD repeatedly.
Might want to carefully read what I wrote; in a lot of ways I'm agreeing with you, and taking my own jab at the guy you're mocking.
Furthermore, I stated right from the start that I made that post specifically to be fair. If I responded to his thread and not yours, he'd probably take the chance to point that out and try to dismiss my arguments in his thread on account of me being 'biased' or some other poorly-reasoned excuse.
I don't want to leave him with any opportunity to ignore the truth.
Stop fighting, guys. Things like this aren't exactly helping.
EDIT: Okay, neverMIND, this one might be dumber because OP is genuinely rude.
Woo, assuming I'm triggered. GJ there, way to actually use the old thinker. Nah actually that word and and your use of it is thought-cancer.
See, I can bounce off people's posts without reading them too, but that kinda defeats the point of a forum, doesn't it?
Are we not supposed to reply?
