Waterleafs not harvestable.
They've gotten good-sized, but I can't harvest them, it's been maybe 10 in game days. Should I use a planter box?

Seeds drop sometimes if you harvest the plant, you can increase the seed drop by using a Staff of Gegrowth https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Staff_of_Regrowth for harvesting

Seeds drop when the plant is blooming. For waterleaf, this is when it is raining (if in a planter box), or while in contact with water if it is growing on sand.

I had one in a pot. But it did not function.
Will try the planterbox, when i find a seed next time.

Oh can i make it rain on the waterleafs by using a rainy cloud from the sky islands?
Does it function?

No, I don't think so because the rain cloud blocks have nothing to do with the actual weather event.

You CAN grow Waterleaf in a pot and get seeds, but it must be touching water. This can be either naturally occurring rain or you can pour a bucket of water over the plant (a single pixel's worth of sitting water touching the plant is enough).

Great. I didn't know that.
Is it sufficient, when the water touches the pot?

You'll know, because the water leaf will develop a small glow, and seem to have droplets of water on it's leaves.
