How far away from the crystal does the portal spawn?

I'm going to build a floating arena but I don't want it to be too short or too long for the event...

It depends on the "Flat" Area that you place around the crystal, other than that the only thing I know for sure is that there is a minimun distance 60 blocks, so if you want the portals to spawn far aways place the crystal in the middle of a very long solid flat place.

at least 100 blocks each side

at least 60 blocks to each side, maximum probably about 120

the minimum distance is 60 blocks. do that if you plan on farming it. if you are just starting out, make it 100 blocks away from the crystal. perfectly flat.
