Best first mage armor for hardmode?

This is the first time I'm trying to play as a mage in Terraria. Right now I use meteor.
What would be the first hardmode armor I should get?

I'm guessing mythril or palladium since that's the first one available in hardmode.

Then the forgotten armor perhaps?

All the hardmode ores have three set variations - one for melee, one for ranged, and one for magic - in the form of different helmets (which also produce different set bonuses). So for your first hardmode mage armor I would recommend the armor made out of whichever hardmode ore you are able to get enough of first, with Orichalcum or Titanium probably being the best of the six (in my opinion).
Also, it is worth noting that before hardmode, you can obtain ancient cobalt armor (dropped from underground jungle enemies) or jungle armor (crafted from underground jungle materials), which are identical to one another, and are magic-oriented sets that are slightly better for a pre-hardmode mage who is using anything other than the space gun.
