Newbie Wiring Tutorial Help?
Never wired a trap. I'm trying to set up red pressure plates with dart traps in a pit but they don't work. I can't even get one to work let alone multiple ones. I can hear the plate click when the squirel runs over it. I tried wiring them to an on/off switch and they still don't work. Can't figure out what I am supposed to be doing.

The only tutorials I am finding are for advanced trap making. Thanks.

Also, could you elaborate a little more? Maybe provide a few screen shots?

I'm not sure how to elaborate more, I'm sorry. It's a 5x20 long pit next to my base for enemies to fall into. I wanted to do a vertical stack of dart traps that were set off by them stepping on pressure plates since I just went into Hardmore and am woefully underpowered. Had pirates show up almost right away and it took me over an hour of dying to kill them all.

I guess I don't understand the mechanics of hooking up a trap since nothing is happening after I run the wire and something sets off the plate.

I ran wire from the dart trap to the red pressure plate and nothing happens when something runs over it. No dart fires from the trap.

I thought maybe it required an on off switch so I ran a wire to that as well. Nothing happens even with (I assume) the switch being turned on.

Do animals not count for the red pressure plate? Is that my problem?

Ah I remember now, monsters don't set off pressure plates

Use a switch and hook it up to a timer, that will solve your problem

Actually, some pressure plates work with monsters. I think Red, for instance, works for everything.

OP said he was using the red pressure plate..... I'll be back

Yeah, it should have been working. OP is probably getting caught in the delay between each Dart Trap activation.

Pressure plates aren't the best for mosh pits anyway, (ew, but that's what I'll call them for now), I always hook them up to a 1 second timer, they're a lot more reliable. (OP this is partially for you)

I agree with that, although I prefer summons for farming (but that is another story).

If the problem hasn't been solved yet, make sure the wire directly touches the dart trap and the pressure plate. Use the option in the Settings menu to make sure there is wire on the tile the pressure plate occupies, not necessarily the block the pressure plate is on top of. Also, you may want to use a 1-second timer to power the dart traps instead (crafted with a Gold or Platinum Watch and 1 Wire) to make more darts fire.

Thanks for all the advice, I didn't use enough wire >_< I wasn't wiring the actual plate, I was only running it as far as the block below.

I just realized I never finished my thought with the option in the Settings menu :P There's one that makes a grid appear around your cursor, I forget what it's called. Anyway, I figured that this was your issue:

...so nice job. I enjoy helping out with simplish wiring tasks, so feel free to ask anything else if you need it!
