Best pre-hardmode ranged weapon?
When i reach 300 hours of terraria, i wanted to make a challenge for myself: Kill the mech trio, but only using items and weapons from pre-hardmode.

It was way too easy, but i almost ran out of time, i didnt have any problem with HP or mobility since i was using the ballons to substitute the wings.

Now i want to kill them in expert mode.

The only thing between me and this achivement is the DPS, i cannot take out the 3 bosses at once during only one night with the star cannon, so i ask, is there any better DPS weapon that i can use? I dont mind losing defense or mobility, i just want DPS for a ranged weapon, coment any build that may help me.

maybe the demon scythe, or that flower thing in the underworld chests that shoot flames
There atually isn't. The star cannon IS a phenomenal weapon, but simply lacks the DPS do to so without late or end-game equiment.

No. Flower of fire has high DAMAGE, but you're gonna get yourself killed because it's simly a horrible weapon to hit things with. Demon scythe has similar DPS, but there aren't many prehardmode Magic Damage-boosting accessories. I'd say stick with the cannon.

not really... not without hardmode armor/equipment.

and its stupidly hard. i defeated all 3 mechs in expert without armor or a mount using only the shadowflame bow in a single night. ill be honest. the bosses in expert compared to normal are waaaay harder than double.

your best bet is to use a hellwing bow with jesters arrows. unholy arrows may also do well. then when you have only one mech left or you need more accuracy switch back to either fury or star cannon. make sure you have all the buffs esp archery buff and well fed.

Quite a well thought-out response from our boy Sash.
This is the build i used when i beated them in normal:

Damage
Talking about the mech trio, time is a important thing about them, since you have on a timespam of one night to kill them, otherwishe they either run away or hit-kill you, so with no doubt you need a weapon capable of doing massive damage, so i choose the star canon, wich is the best pre-hardmode weapon, otherwise you probaly wont be able to deal enough damage to kill all of them, but its ammo is way to rare, i needed something like 1500-2000 stars to kill them, since i missed a lot of shoots, i recomend using molten armor, not necro, beacuse you will only heal 100hp per potion with only prehard mode items, but you can use necro armor if you can dodge most of their atacks, you want to use the Wrath Potion for the 10% bonus.

Defense
I used an combination of items that gave me 22+ def all with the modifier warding, wich will give you a 4+ defense for each, with obsidian shield to prevent being stuck in the middle of them and the other ones just for mobility and bees (Even through they didnt hep too much)

Acessories

-Warding Lighting Boots: 4+ Def

-Warding Green Horseshoe Balloon: 4+ Def

-Warding Obsidian Shield: 6+ Def

-Warding Sweetheart Necklace; 4+ Def

-Warding Bundle of Balloons: 4+ Def

-Total: 22+ Def

Armor

-Molten Helmet: 8+ Def

-Molten Breasplate 9+ Def

-Molten Greaves: 8+ Def

-Total: 25+ Def and 17%+ melee damage (Useless, since the only viable weapon is star canon, wich is ranged)

Potions

-Ironskin: 8 def+

-Endurace potion: -10% Damage taken

-Sashimi: I dont know what this thing do, just that it give me an bonus on all stats, if you know how much it helps, please comment down below.

Heal
To do this, you will have to only use pre-hardmode gear and potions, you will have only 100hp heals before you kill the first boss, so i used 5 kings slime spawns (I recommend to have at least 7, since at the end i ran out of king slimes, and had a hard time killing the last boss alive, skeletron), lifeforce potion, regeneration potion, restoration potions, and 8 honey buckts since it increases the heal rate.

(Just copied from my old thread, this is why it seems like a tutorial to do this)

Defensive accessories are useless here, remember? your defense is going to take away what? 15.25 damage? That's not going to do you any good... your best bet is to practice avoiding them, so you can focus on LUCKY equipment for the highest DPS.
here's the link to the SASHimi/well fed buff

Also necro armor too, since it will increase my DPS, but i will really need to avoid damage them.

you need to be avoiding damage anyway... Even with the what? 9 extra defense molen armor gies you, you'll take an unoticeable change in damage. Wear Necro armor, shark-tooth necklace, frostspark boots, bundle of balloons(difficult but worth it), band of regen, and shield of cthuhlu for best avoidance (lucky for extra DPS).
