Best pre-hardmode gun?

i'm sick of using my stupid sandgun, so what else can i use? if the obvious answer is the minishark and nothing else, someone say it.

The best weapon is flare gun. Outstanding 2 damage.

The minishark is good, however I personally prefer the phoenix blaster made by upgrading a handgun from the dungeon with hellstone bars.

The Phoenix Blaster is the best bullet-shooting gun when considering both damage per shot and attack speed, with the highest DPS of any pre-hardmode gun. (The only downside is that it doesn't autofire.) The Star Cannon is even better, although it uses Fallen Stars as ammo.

Musket is great damage per shot.

Phoenix blaster is best damage per second.

Minishark is best damage per second vs unarmored targets.

Go try boomstick. Can be obtained in jungle chests. Very nice shotgun, just don't use pearcing bullets.

+1, forgot about the boomstick. It's got nice damage per bullet (consumed).

Minishark + Shark-Tooth Necklace cranks out a ton of damage.

Boomstick is good although it might be hard to hit all of your shots at longer range so I suggest the musket.
