Extreme lag in multiplayer. [SOLVED]
I have recently been trying to play multiplayer with my friends with "join via steam" but it's nearly unplayable due to the lag. This is only happening in terraria and it doesn't matter who is hosting.

(Note: This is connection lag and not fps)

Try hosting a server via terrariaserver.exe (Found in the root folder)

How do you invite players then? How od you join the server yourself? If you join per "Join via IP" the game doesnt know you're the host and that you can invite ppl.

You have to share your IP with the people you're going to play with. The IP you and others connect with can be found here[www.whatismyip.com].

There's a problem with this though. In my case I can't connect to the server and neither can my friends... It says "Connecting" and nothing else happens, even though it's the right IP. This might have to do something with port forwarding.

Oh wow, thanks for the answer two years after :D

So you should not need a VPN setup like Hamachi (because Hamachi is not working for me)?

No problem :)

No, me and my friends has played before using only the Terrariaserver.exe thing. Though as I said there might be some problems with port-forwarding. (I could connect to my friends this way but could not host the server myself for some reason, likely due to port-forwarding or other issues with my wifi.)

Sorry, but have you fixed it yet? I'm having the same issue and I'm not sure how should I deal with that

Unfortunately not. As I wrote it could have something to do with port forwarding but I am otherwise clueless at this point. It's the same in other games for me (can't host servers for others to join. They never connect, even with port forwarding fixed). Have not found a reason so far other than that my internet provider may not allow computers outside the network to connect.
