What do you think of my starter base?
I'm an absolutely awful building with most of my buildings just looking like block towers but i recently started a new playthrough and i wanted my starter base to look really good so i spent hours doing research and it's now complete. What do you think?

You should craft the beam at the "Table Saw" in order to support your balcony. It also needs a different roof imo.
But it's really nice!

Looks nice, not sure if it is that practical though with how many NPCs you will need.

Thanks for the suggestion to support my balcony, i'll either do it with fences or wooden beam.
What roof do you think i should get, so far the only thing i can think of is clay bricks.

I'll either build other types of houses around this or just use this until i've progressed a bit and have access to more different types of blocks and furniture to build something more permanent.

I'd personaly recommended the Copper-Plated stone brick if you want to do a steampunk feeling, otherwise I think a plant-roof would do nice.

What do you mean by plant roof (sorry, as i said i'm awful at building and this is my 1st somewhat success so i don't really know the blocks in the game.) At the moment i've got clay bricks changed since screenshot was taken nut if you think a "plant roof" would look better please could you explain what it is. I feel like an idiot right now.

Don't feel bad. Just look at all the other discussions.

A "plant roof" is usually a flatter roof that has a bit of dirt on the bottom, with grass growing on it. It is agriculturally oriented and you could use it to grow various helpful plants such as sunflowers, blinkroot, ect.

Thatnks for the info but i don't think that sort of style is for me. I've got some clay brick roofs on, supported my balcony and i'm now adding some more chests for good measure, an updated screenshot should be posted in a couple minutes.

The balk needs some support and to be shorter.

Here's an updated version but i don't think it's 100% finished yet

All of this has been done as well as more chests for practicality, an angel statue outside because i noticed i had one and a piggy bank because a merchant arrived. The main thing i'm uncertain about at the moment is the chimney, it doesn't look right to me and any tips of how to implement it a bit better would be appreciated and acted upon.

You could always make a seperate building for the heater / Blacksmith / whatever. Otherwise, you could "zig zag" the chimney away from the roof.
Great job with mixing wall types!

Suggestions:
- Uproot the grass and replace it with Grey Brick or something
- Make some Fences to go around the bottom
- SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM furniture - lanterns, pianos, tables, lamps - shove it everywhere! I want to see no tile that could have furniture that doesn't!
- I personally separate my crafting and storage area from my NPC housing because both of them balloon to immense proportions, but that's your call
