Can a medusa spawned with a statue have a drop when killed?

Yes, but the drop rates are apparently cut by 10 when it's from statues.

Is that so? I had always thought that they wouldn't, save for a few. For example, my unicorn statue farm never yielded Blessed Apples. Unless, RNG was harsh even after 1000+ unicorns...

well they reduce the spawn rate of items
but you can get the banners to make it easier to kill the enemies

Yes, that is the case for the newer statues (thus, for instance, Slime Statues aren't affected).

And sadly buggy statues wont let you catch the bugs for bait :steamsad:

Probably because that would be "broken" (endless bait easily gotten).
