Fishing tips?
Anyone got tips on how I can grind out my last achievements for fishing while not getting bored?

Do something else while you wait. For instancd, read a book or build something in-game.

Although I'm one of the last people who should give fishing advice lol, goes a lot quicker if you're getting as much fishing power as you can. Sitting duck from the traveling merchant, and water size of 300 blocks or more. Make an underground fishing spot for each biome (combine them if you can, like ice + corruption/crimson). It shouldn't take long enough for you to get bored.

Edit: Ok, each individual task shouldn't take long enough to get bored. And I think the achievements are for every character, not just the single one.

if i were you i'd capture a ton of quest fish before you turn in the actual quest fish
since they repeat, chances are he'll ask you for the same fish later on

i remember i stocked up on about 30 fish for each quest so i could immediately teleport back and give them to angler in a heartbeat.

also fishing in general to make it go faster, you need more fishing power
aka bait power, water lvl, clothing, potions, fishing rods, etc.
water lvl is important if youre starting out without anything, the larger the water the more chance you have of catching better fish
if its too small you'll get garbage like old shoes and tin cans, and if its too small enough you won't be able to catch anything at all

also theres a device you can find from the chests a sundail that lets you fast foward a day, however you can only use the dial once every 7 days, its still good for going onto the next quest.

to make fishing seem less of a chore, do all your fishing at the start of the day, then turn it in, and cont with the rest of your journey or tasks

also doing other mob events like a pumpkin moon or martian invasion can help pass the time

not to say that fishing is a chore
infact, its one of the best ways to start terraria
you can get fish like bass and cook and eat them for stat improvements
crates that contain items and precoius ores like gold and platinum ores/bars that can be crafted into mid pre-hardmode tier items.

theres also the weapon fish like the frosted daggers, the bomb fish, and the tool fishes like the reaversaw fish to cut down trees

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGLE

useful guide:

0) build house for Angler at spawn point, house should also contain a chest (NOT piggybank)
1) find easy quest fish
2) catch fish
3) stuff fish in piggybank (not chest)
4) catch fish again, because you can catch one if it's not in your inventory
5) rinse and repeat until your piggybank is full (40 fish)
6) empty piggybank into chest - this is why you use a piggybank as I don't want to lug 40 unstackable fish from one chest to another
7) save + exit
8) create 40 new characters
9) load world, load one new character, hand in quest fish
10) repeat 9 39 times
11) repeat 1-10 5 times and voila!

200 quest fish handed in - and as because it's not 200 quest fish on one character, it is simply 200 fish handed in, you have a nice and easy way to get the achievement!

(and fill a whole chest up with Bunny Mounts as those are -always- your 5th Quest Fish Hand-in reward...)

holy crap thats brilliant
but in the time it takes to make all those other worlds
and characters
wouldn't it be easier to just wait the day out?

No no, you'd only be making new characters if I'm reading it right.

By the looks of it it's the same world, and character creation can easily be skipped.

Fight some bosses while fishing! It's challenging but sometimes fun! Or you can get music boxes and play those while fishing. ( to record music, equip the box, go to the area of music you want, wait, then the box should change )

You only need the one world, but you do need to create 40x new characters. You can go with 20 if you like, but that'll reduce your efficiency.

There's a more elaborate guide under the Steam Guides section, that's the quick version (and yep I stole his idea :P)

Character creation is really quick anyway - you don't need to customize them at all. Hair yep clothes yep all sorts of stuff which you never see under your armor anyway yep - next! *click click click click* Took me about 5-10 minutes to create 40 characters - and given a Terraria day is 24 minutes and you can re-use these characters next time, it's a HUGE timesaver.

Just have autopause ON and make sure you start fishing at dawn - else midnight will hit and the quest will change. (I wasn't being too hasty and I got 40 quest fish all handed in by 7pm)

EDIT: You want two or three chests by the Angler. One for fish and another for rewards.
