Their projectiles are very different; Terra Blade shoots out a sword that pierces a little, while the Seedler shoots out a bomb with an area of effect.
The Terra Blade DOES have some good damage, but the Influx Waver is even better, can be obtained shortly after the Terra Blade can, and is not as difficult to get.
I would say they are mostly for collection's sake, or for people who don't want to use the same things over and over.
yea but plantera spawns after the mechs aswell. so you can get both at the same time, basically. you can even fight them at the same time if you bring mothron to the planteras bulb and initiate the plantera bulb.
